Tamika All American Nkechi Okoro Carroll told her writers’ room a story about a Black young woman named Tamika Pratt. In February 2020 she was found sleeping in her car and shot by police. This happened well before the U.S. began to slip into privacy and George Floyd’s murder.
This report was broadcast on Monday, more than a year later.
Carroll tells EW that this was always the plot they intended to carry out. As the mother of Black men, I felt a lot of unease and pain around the subject. I put everything I had into it, hoping for divine intervention. I thought that, with all that occurred the summer before, with the race, and the openness of civil rights in this country, there would be a change. As we reached this point in the plot, I knew that I would have to battle against the feeling that it was dated.

What is Tamika Pratt’s role in All American?
While napping, a young Black woman named Tamika Pratta was murdered by police.
Olivia, the executive of the show, was particularly shaken by the episode because she could have had the same results as Tamika if Laura Fine-Baker’s daughter hadn’t raised her.
Laura, who is currently the district attorney for Los Angeles County in California, is White. Olivia is affected by the disparity between Tamika and Olivia in terms of police treatment.
You may remember that in episode 8 of Season 3, Olivia was involved in an accident.
Alcohol has hurt her. Once the police know who her mother is, they will give her a lift home.
Tamika was not treated with the same leniency. The girl chose to take a break instead of driving.
Her tragic death was the result of a shocking twist in events after she was shot by a policeman.
Olivia’s digital recording of Tamika discussing unfair treatment was the beginning of the ‘Equity for Tamika Movement’.
Since George Floyd’s death on May 25, 2019, some television shows have focused on Black Lives Matter, fundamental injustice, and police officers.
It may surprise you to know that Nkechi Okaro Carroll, the showrunner of the series, first presented Tamika Pratt’s story to the writers back in March 2020 – well before Floyd.
Carroll said to Entertainment Weekly they stifled plots because of a real fear for people.
Carroll, mother to two Black young men, writes from her heart.
When she said, “When we arrived at this plot, I thought that the thing I would struggle most against is that it would feel outdated.”
The eleventh scene was screened at a critical time, given the current political turmoil in the United States.
Ma’Khia Bryant was a Black Girl from Columbus, Ohio. She was killed on April 20th, 2021 by the police during a legal operation.
The incident took place 30 minutes before the formal conviction of Derek Chauvin for murdering George Floyd.
Carroll stated that it would appear as if he had written the piece last week. “It makes me angry because I think we’ve not made the progress that I had hoped for.”
Who killed Tamika?
Tamika’s story is similar to that of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other African Americans.
According to reports, a police officer shot and killed the woman as she was sleeping.
Recent reports state that Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in George Floyd’s murder.
The idea was based on a perception of police prejudices and ethical crimes in the United States.
In April 2021, Nkechi Okoro Carroll, the showrunner, will reveal to TV Guide, that her plot was conceived in March 2020. Two months before George Floyd’s death, Nkechi Okoro Carroll came up with the plot.
“I have no idea how I feel as a father of Black young children because it was difficult to write, shoot, bathe in, and edit these sequences.”
She called the show a ‘rare little gem’ because it portrays accurately the struggles and victories of American children, particularly Black youth.
This is one instance when it would have been nice if the technology had appeared antiquated.

In reality, the death of Tamika Pratt caused an unexpected upheaval.
Olivia is shocked by the silence surrounding Tamika’s murder and decides to discuss it on her broadcast.
Olivia finally makes a major step. She breaks into her mother’s laptop, fearing that the officer who killed Tamika will be freed unless he can show his body-camera footage.
The bodycam video of Tamika’s murder is then shared.
We can then move quickly on to the Justice for Tamika Initiative, where we will apprehend the official responsible for the death of this young woman.
