While pastels of springtime and tropical hues of summer provide beautiful dopamine-inducing colors for springtime and summer, respectively, my heart lies with earthy neutrals like those seen here – stylists predict that all fall 2023 colors everyone will be wearing fit this cozy theme seamlessly.
What colors conjure images of Fall? Often associated with its changing leaves, autumn is known for its vibrant palette of autumnal hues ranging from bright green leaves turning crimson and yellow as temperatures decrease to orange-tinged varieties and royal plums. Though Fall’s palette remains constant year over year, each autumn brings something new into its palette – its story continues to expand year after year!
Fall 2023 fashion trends emphasize complementary hues that stand-alone or add rich pops of color. We consulted four stylists and fashion experts on which shades will become increasingly prevalent this Fall so you can stay ahead of the trends.
Color Prediction: Clay
Earthy tones like clay offer great adaptability that complements an array of skin tones, eye colors, and hair shades, according to Ramy Brook Sharp of Ramy Brook, further stating they “can easily transition between acting as a neutral backdrop or vibrant pop of color.”
Pantone’s Color of the Year 2023 will be “Viva Magenta,” says Naina Singla, fashion stylist, and style expert. The hue was also featured prominently in the long-awaited Barbie movie and highlighted on the runway during Valentino Fall/Winter 2022 collection; we expect to see more instances of it during Fall and Winter 2023 as an accent or statement color!
Chalky Cream and Bone According to Angelique Joseph, SVP of Design & Development for Naturalizer, she expects a trend toward tones from the cream, bone, and winter white families as the predominant hues for spring 2015. Tonal dressing remains popular today and feeds into the Quiet Luxury trend; additionally, these hues were prominent on runway shows and Europe inspiration shopping trips; trend forecasting also featured them heavily.” This color trend has already made its mark on footwear designs!
Color Prediction: Red Dahlia
Fall will be an increasingly vibrant season for bold red tones, such as Red Dahlia, seen at many fashion shows, including Yves Saint Laurent, Prada Fall ’23 shows, and The Row Spring ’24 runway shows, according to Singla. “Red Dahlia stood out prominently among Yves Saint Laurent, Prada Fall ’23 shows as well as The Row Spring ’24 runway shows with its presence being highlighted beautifully paired up with buttery yellow tones at Gucci.” Red Dahlia by definition stands as “elegance personified,” making this color suitable for pairing beneath coats with bold accessories like top handle mini bags.”
Color Prediction: Burgundy Jay Hines, the celebrity stylist, attributes the prediction of Burgundy being prominent to collections from Victoria Beckham, Hermes, and Stella McCartney designers and what people gravitate toward on social media – which makes for good evidence.
Saint Laurent’s Fall 2023 runway show featured many shades of brown in head-to-toe tonal looks,” according to Singla. Prada debuted chocolate brown alongside other neutral colors like grey, black, and white for fall 2023 collections; this versatile hue pairs well with different hues, making it the new “black.” Singla speculates this shade “could become the go-to trend this fall 2023 season”.
